HASHI16_banner_attend_600x600Many experts in chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) like Dr Sarah Myhill and Dr Holtorf confirm that sub-clinical low thyroid is a common problem in patients with CFS.

Dysfunction in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is a confirmed finding in CFS and would lead to low cortisol levels, which in turn interferes with thyroid hormones.

The thyroid imbalances found in people with illnesses like CFS usually wont be low enough for an official diagnosis of thyroid disease by conventional medicine, but the imbalance can be sub-clinical (“functional”) and still have a major affect on a patient’s health.

This is similar to “adrenal fatigue”  – conventional medicine only recognises Addison’s disease  – there is no middle ground for a functionally low level of cortisol which would only by picked up by “alternative” testing or by narrowing the standard blood test reference ranges.

In some CFS patients, the cause of the low thyroid may be undiagnosed autoimmunity also known as “Hashimoto’s.”

Unsurprisingly people with CFS and Hashimoto’s or low thyroid share many similar symptoms:

  • Lethargy
  • Sensitivity to cold
  • Heat intolerance
  • Mood swings
  • Depression
  • Poor memory
  • Concentration
  • Joint pains
  • Morning stiffness
  • Headaches
  • Vertigo
  • Deafness
  • Pre-menstrual tension
  • Voice change
  • Loss of libido
  • Susceptibility to viral infections

If you or your patients have chronic fatigue it is vital to rule out a problem with thyroid function. So, I’m happy to share details about this upcoming summit on this exact subject.

Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is also known as Hashimoto’s disease, autoimmune thyroiditis or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. It is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the thyroid and a gradual destruction of thyroid tissue by the immune system. It occurs in 3 stages: silent autoimmunity, autoimmune reactivity and full-blown autoimmune disease–the sooner it is detected, the better your odds of getting good results from treatment.

The Healing Hashimoto’s Summit is online and free from June 13-20, 2016!
